Cat Stevens - Live at the Aquarius Theatre, Hollywood, CA, November 9, 1973.

Upgrade of a radio broadcast.

In a review of this 1973 show, Sam Sutherland wrote: "Viewers were treated to a portrait of Stevens' music of unusual depth, as Stevens moved through material from various phases of his recording career since joining A&M's roster. The quality of the stereo-FM track for simulcast was excellent. Showcasing the possible technical heights this medium could reach, and both Stevens and a superb back-up including stalwarts Alun Davies, Jean Roussel and Gerry Conway, long time Stevens collaborators, made that aspect of the show more than just a technical triumph.

"Stevens is a dark and quiet personality and the show was virtually without any spoken comment. While small screen addicts might have been disappointed by the lack of chatter, it was a refreshing departure from the usual inanity of forced conversations that are often included to provide humor or personality… Stevens seemed more comfortable just singing and it helped give the show a more natural feel."

Performed about a year after the release of Catch Bull At Four, Cat Stevens' most successful album in the United States, this concert, which is a fan favourite, has been issued as a bootleg vinyl and later transferred onto CD.

But fans such as Preclipse, who had taped the show when it was first broadcast, have been disappointed with the sound. As Preclipse notes: "I recorded this concert the first night it aired, edited some transitions by recording over the starts and ends of commercials, then made a cassette copy and put the reel away. In 1984, I bought the vinyl bootleg LP, The Hoaxer's Midnight Daydream, and it seemed to sound better, but I wasn't quite sure. Later still, I downloaded the widely circulated CD transfer of the LP, but was very disappointed. I finally have the tools to do this tape justice, and now have it all sorted out.
"So, here we have the Cat Stevens portion of the show in the proper order, with all the audience and segues intact."

(these are high quality stereo MP3s - sample rate of 192 kibit/s). As far as we can ascertain, this recording has never been officially released..
