London Daze is the sixth album by Spiders & Snakes, released by Cleopatra Records in 2000. The album features rerecordings of songs that were recorded or played by frontman Lizzie Grey's previous band London. The album's most successful track was the rerecording of "Public Enemy #1", which was also recorded by Mötley Crüe and released on their debut album Too Fast For Love (1981). According to Grey, the track received "a great deal of airplay both domestically and international[ly].London Daze also includes three tracks from a 16-track demo recorded by London in 1980 featuring ex-Mott the Hoople vocalist Nigel Benjamin on vocals and Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx on bass.
Spiders & Snakes is a pure Hollywood rock and roll band. The kind made famous by big hair and tight pants. The band’s roots stretch back to guitarist Lizzie Grey’s time with Nikki Sixx in a pre-Motley band, London.

The first Spiders & Snakes release “Arachnomania” was released in 1991 at the end of the American hair metal phenomenon but the band was able to quickly catch on in the metal Mecca that is Japan.

The band struggled through the decade, unsuccessfully latching on to the mid 90’s punk revival. In 2000 a return to their roots with “London Daze” made some small waves but the ensuing tour ground to a halt when bass player Leigh Lawson passed away suddenly.

Now the band has released its seventh album Hollywood Ghosts which includes a bonus DVD with music videos and live performances. Hollywood Ghosts is a mixed bag. The band has the capacity for a catchy hook but falls into the realm of goofy too often. It would make no sense to compare Spiders & Snakes to current music as they are firmly entrenched into the sound and look of the 1980’s.

The band does sound promising on the electro-infused “American Baby” that really kick starts the album but quickly lose steam with a few annoying and gimmicky sounding songs like “Angelyne”, “Bill’s Cigar” and the terrible cover of “The Girl Can’t Help It”.

A few jewels stick out of the mud including “Freeway”, “Someday” and “Waiting for Me in L.A.”; All songs about trying to make your dreams happen in Hollywood. Spiders & Snakes is a band made in Hollywood and tried for years to get out. It’s too bad that the most interesting thing about them is where they are from.
