Biography by Jason Ankeny from Allmusic:
Formed in Berlin, Germany in 1987, the Caspar Brötzmann Massaker was a vehicle for its nominal leader, an acclaimed guitar virtuoso (as well as the son of saxophonist Peter Brötzmann) whose intense work summoned the spirit and power of traditions ranging from heavy metal to free jazz. A trio also comprised of bassist Eduardo Delgado Lopez and drummer Danny Arnold Lommen, the Massaker debuted in 1987 with The Tribe, a showcase for Brötzmann's dive-bombing guitar work and ominous vocals. With 1992's Der Abend Der Schwarzen Folklore, the trio broadened their structural and rhythmic horizons over the course of four epic tracks ranging in sound from throbbing metal to blues; the following year's Koksofen continued their advancement, but only 1995's Home earned any significant mainstream attention. The live effort Zulutime was released in 1996. Mute Massaker followed four years later.
Biography from Wikipedia:
Caspar Brötzmann (born 1962 in Germany) is an electric guitar player.
While Brötzmann typically performs with the power trio lineup of Massaker, with guitar, bass guitar and drum set, he only uses rock and roll and heavy metal music as a basis for his music. Brötzmann's technique has been praised: "… his attack on the instrument – explosive, obstreperous, large scale, textural, timbral – asserts the material facts of string-pickup-amplifier more bluntly than anyone else currently involved in rock."
Brötzmann has been compared to Jimi Hendrix (perhaps an inevitable comparison for an adventurous left-handed Fender Stratocaster player prone to extreme loudness and deft manipulation of audio feedback), and to Edgard Varèse, who, like Brötzmann, demonstrated a keen awareness for the importance of sound as well as properly notated music.
Brötzmann's father, Peter Brötzmann, is a free jazz saxophone player. They have recorded a duo album, Last Home.
This was my first vinyl rip about 10 years ago. I had never heard of lossless or flac yet, the maximum file size on the best hosters was 100 MB, DSL didn't exist and Modems were analog, Mp3 encoding with iTunes 1.1 – prehistorical times. So please excuse the absence of Flac files.
