After three albums of more or less mediocre but entertaining Philly-disco stuff, Grace entered the 80s with a total transition. Produced by Chris Blackwell & Alex Sadkin and featuring a band comprising funk legends Sly & Robbie, Grace's Warm Leatherette with its unique blend of reggae, rock and funk combined with Grace's die-hard vocal deliverance was a powerhouse of an album, still sounding sparkling fresh today. Although a large share of the songs were cover versions, Grace effectively makes "Warm Leatherette", "Private Life", "Love Is The Drug" and "The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game" her own. Who said Grace Jones couldn't sing? She pours a hell lotta emotion into those tracks. Two more albums with this magical crew followed (Nightclubbing and Living My Life) with equally stunning results.

This is amongst Grace's best material, her cover of "Warm Leatherette" is every bit as trendy and cool as the original from The Normal, it's just different. I think her freakish nature and fashion sense helped make this a little more fascinating than it might have been. This features several covers actually, I think my favorite on here was "The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game", she really made a very cool and updated version. "Love is the Drug" was a decent cover also, and "Private Life" definitely deserves a mention too. This album features a bit of a reggae tint and I actually really like Grace + reggae, it's a good equation. Even though this is mainly covers, it really feels like Grace, I mean she seems to put a lot of herself into this album and I think that's what makes it special.
