Denmark’s GUTTURAL SLUG have chosen the perfect name for their implausibly heavy sophomore full-length, the bowel-loosening “Megalodon,” a ridiculously effective chunk of straight-forward Slamming Death Metal that mixes gnarly grooves, barf-bag vocals, and neatly timed momentum bursts with ferociously fun results.At only seven tracks and less than 20 minutes long, “Megalodon” is a gut-check. Comprised of two musicians, Mauro the vocalist and Mikkel the guitarist/drum programmer, GUTTURAL SLUG, unlike said prehistoric shark, never bite off more than they can chew, a quality that keeps the album chugging, from ever growing wearisome. And considering how these riffs and slams aren’t exactly out of the norm in this subgenre, the band should be further commended for keeping the energy level at its maximum notch, a level suited best for your everyday adrenaline-fiend.
