Mick Goodrick
Guitarist and educator, has recorded and performed internationally for the past 40 years with other world famous musicians such as Gary Burton, Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden, John Scofield, Jack DeJohnette, Paul Motian, Dewey Redman, John Abercrombie, Dave Liebman, Joe Diorio and Steve Swallow, to name a few.

Mick is renowned for both his harmonic command of the guitar and his prowess as an influential teacher. He is author of the book known among players as the “guitarist's bible” entitled, The Advancing Guitarist (Hal Leonard Publications). He is author of the three volume series, Mr. Goodchord's Almanac of Guitar Voice-Leading for the Year 2001 and Beyond, co-author with his business partner Mitch Haupers of the rhythm-training book entitled, Factorial Rhythm: For All Instruments, now in its second edition, and composer/arranger/author of four new books awaiting production through Mr. Goodchord Publications, including a book of solo compositions for fingerstyle guitar.

Joe Diorio
Guitarist and composer Joe Diorio was born in Waterbury, CT, August 6, 1936. Joe has 50 years experience playing the guitar and over 40 years experience as a performer and recording artist. He has worked with such jazz luminaries as Sonny Stitt, Eddie Harris, Ira Sullivan, Stan Getz, Horace Silver, and Freddie Hubbard. He has recently toured Italy with Riccardo Del Fra (bass player with Chet Baker, Johnny Griffin, Toots Thieleman). His most recent releases on CD with the newItalian jazz label RAM Records include: I Remember Wes, a tribute to Wes Montgomery; A solo guitar album We Will Meet Again; Double Take with live recordings of the performances with Riccardo Del Fra; and Rare Birds, a duo album withMick Goodrick. Highly respected as an educator, Joe has many books and an educational video to his name. Joe currently teaches at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles and has conducted jazz guitar seminars throughout the United States, Europe, and Brazil. Additionally, Joe was one of the three founding instructors for the Guitar Institute of Technology (G. I. T.) in Hollywood California.

This album is composed of 6 standards and 6 originals. Every track is a first take and has not been rehersed, if only verbally. Each one of the 6 songs is an example of the unique way both Mick and Joe lend their style to a standard. Concerning the 6 originals, aII af them were improvised and composed at the very moment I was pushing the record button on my tape machine.

- SUS(4)PENDERS BLUES (the name comes from the fact that both Mick and Joe were wearing suspenders that day) is an improvised Bb blues.
- UNCORK THE BOTTLE is an improvisatian on Jobim's Corcovado changes in swing tempo.
- The harmonic texture of COUNTERPOlNT CARNAVAL and ROMANTIC CARNAVAl has been borrowed from Mahna de Carnaval.
- RARE BIRDS and SPACE WAlK are entirety improvised compositions. On the first one, Mick started out playing something From the top of his head, on the second one it was Joe's turn.

The melodic, harmonic and rhythmic inter-relation and the freshness present in all tracks produce a music so absorbing that the listener is immediately led to a dream-world, directly inside the ''worId of feeling''. It is very difficult to attempt a description of Joe and Mick abilities, so I will let the music speak for itself. Just a bit of listening to them ptay will show you their virtuosity and the innovations they have made in the expressive capabilities of the guitar.
