Severin Balzer was born in Pfungen (Switzerland) and studied classical percussion at the Konservatorium Winterthur, where he earned a distinction in the final concert examinations, and at the Hochschule fur Musik Würzburg under Prof. Siegfried Fink (Master Diploma). Afterwards he took master courses with the "Percussions de Strasbourg", the "Slagverkgroep Den Haag" and with Leigh Howard Stevens (Marimba).
Severin Balzer has been a lecturer for classical percussion at the Konservatorium Schaffhausen since 1984. In 1985 he was awarded a prize at the Musikalische Akademie Würzburg. He has given concerts in Germany, Italy. Austria and Switzerland and has gained acclaim both at home and abroad through disc recordings and television productions.
