Madame Youra Guller is one of the race of interpretative artists made for this type of work. She became known, between the two wars, as one of the great contemporary pianists. But she has never consented to become one of the celebrated idols woh travel continually around the world playing the same programme to the public. As a meticulous, modest, refined and almosts mystical pianist, each of her appearances on the concert platform has impressed her audience by the intensity of her performance and the nobility of her style. It is fitting that this record bears withness to such an artist in the recording of these two sonatas, in which she conveys all the solemn, profound, magical beauty in a personal rendering which has the mark of authenticity, as much in its conception as in its supreme execution. [[i]excerpt from notes by Henri Sauguet]

Again, the playing is of the utmost profundity, among the greatest Beethoven interpretations ever recorded. [[i]Leslie Gerber]

Since this is a second hand CD some parts of the front booklet had to be adjusted (with free 'GIMP 2'), but I did not want to compress the file size; therefore the scan archive is larger than usual.
Please also note that this rip is made from the original CD issued by Erato/Warner Music. There are some more releases of this 1973 recording, e.g. a licensed CD by Nimbus (NI 5061) or the later re-release within the Warner 'apex' series which, however, most often is part of today's databases like freeDB or AccurateRip.

BTW This is my last post with recordings of Madame Guller, since I have no more of her CD releases in my own collection.
Apparently Guller made only three [studio] recordings. A Chopin collection, recorded for Ducretet-Thomson in 1956, is so obscure that I have never even seen a listing for the LP, let alone a copy. Its existence was proved when it was reissued on CD by Dante (HPC 021), a production actually licensed from EMI and in splendid sound. (André Charlin was the engineer.) Guller’s playing of 11 Mazurkas and 5 Nocturnes is profound and deeply moving, filled with amazing subtleties but never calling attention to itself. [[i]Leslie Gerber]
