In May of 2015, violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter gave a truly unique concert: rather than standing on stage in one of the world’s renowned well-tempered grand concert halls, she spent two evenings playing in a tiny graffiti-scrawled nightclub in Berlin. Recorded in front of a standing-room only audience, this new release includes popular works by Bach, Copland, Gershwin, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi and many more. Mutter is joined by Mahan Esfahani, Lambert Orkis and the Mutter Virtuosi.

Composer: Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, George Gershwin, Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, …
Performer: Anne-Sophie Mutter, Noa Wildschut, Nancy Zhou, Lambert Orkis
Conductor: Mahan Esfahani
Orchestra/Ensemble: Mutter's Virtuosi

Violin virtuoso Anne-Sophie Mutter created a sensation at Berlin’s über-cool Neue Heimat night club venue in May this year, as part of Deutsche Grammophon’s ground-breaking "classical-goes-clubbing" series. The event was staged in the former railway station venue by Yellow Lounge, a club night which combines performances from stars of the classical world with cutting-edge DJ and VJ sets in urban spaces.

Through taking part, Mutter was aiming to introduce a new audience to classical music, in an intimate setting that brought the performers and listeners closer together. This first ever live Yellow Lounge recording is the result.

The programme spans three centuries of music – from Bach and Vivaldi to Gershwin and John Williams – and was conceived by the violinist exclusively for this event. All the pieces are well-known and immediately accessible and the excitement of the performers to be playing at such an unusual venue is palpable in the performance.
Joining Mutter here are her longtime accompanist Lambert Orkis, the very capable Mutter Virtuosi – a hand-picked ensemble of young alumni of the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation – and harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani.
A brilliantly played collection that captures all the thrills of this memorable live appearance.
