Rounding up the odds and ends which have surfaced on a million compilations, bootlegs, anthologies, and the like, Family Tree is exactly what it says…and then some.
Arguably, the city of Birmingham was as active as any 60's English metropolis outside of London and Liverpool, even if The Move and The Moody Blues were the only bands of spectacular note to emerge from it.
Family Tree is the soundtrack to all that activity, dragging out obscure singles by bands which most Move collectors have only dreamed of:
the Avengers, Roy Wood's first band;
Carl Wayne & the Vikings;
the Mayfair Set with Wood and Trevor Burton;
the ill-fated 1970 supergroup Balls, with Burton and Moody Denny Laine;
Ace Kefford's abortive (but endlessly entertaining) attempt to write and produce a new band, the Lemon Tree;
the deliciously doom-laden Uglies (Burton and Steve Gibbons)…and so on.
Add some rarely resurrected BBC material for spice, and the absurd spectacle of Roy Wood singing a Sting song for the finale, and the end result is one of those generous collections which would form the foundation of any serious attempt to properly anthologize The Move and their mates.
We're still waiting for that, but Tendolar can at least be commended for making us think about it.

Extremely creative! It's a collection of early Move, along with tracks from the bands the individual members played with before and after The Move.
Most studio quality, odd exception. Proves that the sixties had its dreck the same as any other decade, but historically priceless!
