As the title indicates, "Tipitina: The Complete 1949-1957 New Orleans Recordings" offers everything anybody could hope for from Professor Longhair's early days. These recordings come from a variety of record labels and span the late '40s to the mid-1950s. The recording quality varies but is as a whole, very good. Considering the age, these songs sound surprisingly good. During the Professor's resurgence era, he went on to cut many great albums like "Crawfish Fiesta." At the end of the day, "Tipitina" documents Fess' golden period.
