Scott Keeton and The Deviants released their new CD 100 Mile Blues, April 6, 1999. JSP signed the band last fall and this is their first release with them. All twelve tracks on this disc are original and range from deep guitar fueled blues such as "Nothing Left to Say," to the drag ‘em out "Back Door Shuffle," from the Dwight Yokum-flavored, "Look At That Girl" to the lyrical romantic playing of "Heart Break" and "Eye On You." It is great stuff and will particularly appeal to those of you with a taste for other cross-generic show stoppers such as The Paladins.
Keeton, based in Oklahoma City where this CD was recorded, has soaked in the musical sounds of the region – not only blues and rock but also some gritty Southern soul as well. His unwavering commitment to the heart of its songs, a guitar style that could storm a besieged embassy, and a more than on the money vocal style push the listener to a special place. He has amassed twelve years of blues-playing experience, and has been the toast of the South and Southwestern blues clubs for at least seven years.

BIOGRAPHY:If you have not had the pleasure of seeing Scott Keeton and The Deviants perform live, you are missing out! They are an act that is serious about playing the blues! Influenced by all of the "Kings" this band plays with soul and insists on crowd participation!!! The love of "playing" makes it all worth while for every band member. They want to please all that take the time to listen. No show is the same! The band plays songs from their CD's of course, but they are not afraid to be spontaneous and appeal to what the crowd wants, the blues!
Scott Keeton, the lead singer and guitarist of the Deviants started playing the guitar at age seven.
"I just played around with it." said Keeton. " I think I took one lesson, and then I went to the local libraries and checked out every book I could find. I still can't get a library card in the area because I don't think I ever returned the books."
During his early teens Keeton frequented a local roller rink that had a house band.
"I used to snoop around and look at the equipment to see if I could figure out how it all worked. I didn't know much, and I didn't have much. said Keeton. " One night I took some cables home to make my stuff work. The guy that owned it, Bob Moore, caught on, and one night he asked me if I played. I said yea, and he started letting me play."Even though Keeton only played for the teeny bobbers at the roller rink,, it was his first break, and he got to play regularly. As he got older, Mr. Moore got him into some local clubs in Oklahoma City."They used to sneak me in, and the clubs would let me play." said Keeton.
He graduated at seventeen, a year early from Del City High School, and started touring with local cover bands. After he turned eighteen he began to tour with blues acts out of state"Basically, I played with anyone that would let me play! I toured until I was twenty-two and then I decided to come home and go to college at the University of Oklahoma." said Keeton.
In 1992 he started his own band, The Deviants. "We built up a local following and toured mostly Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and Missouri. Later we included a few gigs Tennessee, and Texas." said Keeton.
In September of 1998, Scott Keeton and The Deviants signed with JSP Records and recorded Hundred Mile Blues. It was released April 6, 1999. Keeton and The Deviants also recorded two other CD's, "Shake Well Serve Cold" in 1997, Scott Keeton and The Deviants, (self-titled), in 1998. They are making plans now to tour throughout the United States and eventually abroad. Right now they are playing throughout Oklahoma, Kansas , Arkansas, and Louisiana. They also have some east coast dates planned for this fall.

"We are really excited about signing with JSP." added Keeton. " They are a great label. I feel like we will be able to work well together."
Keeton and his band have opened for many well known bands including, Bo Diddley, Jeff Healey, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Buckwheat Zdyeco, Coco Montoya, Sonny Rhodes, Jr. Brown, Black Crows, 38 Special, and recently The Paladins, at the Grand Emporium in Kansas City, Kansas. He recently played before Smokey Wilson, and Sonny Rhodes at the First Annual 23rd Street Blues Fesitval In Oklahoma City, and is scheduled to open for Clarence Carter at the Diamond Ballroom in May 1999. Keeton credits the "Kings' as his greatest music influence.
" I listened to Freddie, B.B., Albert, Earl, and the" King of Rock and Roll", Elvis." said Keeton. Keeton enjoys playing the blues. "I love playing the purest form of indigenous American music. True blues fans have a true understanding of the music." said Keeton. "If you don't get the blues you think it is depressing, but it's not. Blues is cathartic. It makes you feel better, not worse. It is an expression of everyday life. It is a release of good energy that helps express the good stuff."
As for his thoughts on the future of blues"It can't be locked off. It's for everybody, if not it won't live. The new blues musicians will keep it alive. The blues is definitely not dead, it's alive! " added Keeton.Every song on " 100 Mile Blues" was written by Keeton.
"Well, I guess basically all of the songs have been inspired from everyday life experiences that myself, or someone that I have been involved has experienced." said Keeton. "Everyone goes through highs and lows in their life, the songs are about those, but also everyday thoughts and feelings."
The other members of the band include, Ike Lamb, guitar, Steven J. Streetman, bass, and James Wyrick, drums.
"It is great playing with a group of guys that all get along." said Ike Lamb, guitarist. "Everyone knows that Scott is the leader, but we are all in this together. We have a great time. We just love to play the blues!"
If you like down and dirty home town rockin blues, from a group of guys that play original tunes, then check out Scott Keeton and The Deviants the next time they play in your area. You will be glad that you did!!!!
