At The Cut is a record of overt honesty – it’s raw and uncompromising but never once forceful and it cements Vic Chesnutt as one of the most important and overlooked artists of the last 20 years. It’s endearing, it’s charming and it’s raw to the nth degree – unadulterated brilliance.

CULTURE CATCH

An affecting and moving set of songs that mostly plays to Chesnutt’s strengths as a musician and lyricist. While its inclusions offer numerous parallels to Chesnutt’s back catalog, rarely have his songs sounded so unflinching.

As pretty as a Sunday drive along the B-roads of the American south in places, the sunshine never lasts long in Chesnutt’s world. At the Cut sees him in torn, perplexed and wonderfully articulate form.
