LIVE IN TOKYO 1982 FROM THE TOTO IV TOUR SET Having been formed in 1977 by session musicians who had previously worked with such artists as Steely Dan, Sonny and Cher, Seals and Crofts, and Boz Scaggs, Toto enjoyed some success during the late 1970s, but they had stalled by the turn of the decade. Their third album, Turn Back, had suffered from particularly disappointing sales upon its 1981 release, and Toto were now under increasing pressure to produce a hit record. The group responded in the best way they knew, putting out Toto IV on 8th April 1982, considered by many to be the band s magnum opus. The record included the singles I Won t Hold You Back , Rosanna and Africa , the latter of which became the Toto s first No. 1 hit, having benefitted from heavy rotation on radio. Toto IV reached the Top 10 in charts worldwide, including No. 4 in both in the US and UK, eventually going 6 x and 2 x Platinum in these territories respectively. The album, and particularly lead single Rosanna , received six gongs at the 1983 Grammy Awards, including Album, Record and Producer Of The Year. Toto began their Toto IV World Tour on 10th May 1982 at Osaka s Furitsu Taiikukan in Japan, followed by other dates in Asia, before moving on to Europe and the US. The recording contained on this double disc collection features the band s entire performance at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo eight days into the tour, which was subject of an FM broadcast. Presented in exceptional audio quality and featuring a host of Toto classics, this set is a prime example of a group at the absolute zenith of their career.
