Maartje Meijer - Inner Circle (2016)

Maartje Meijer is an avowed favorite of the Dutch scene from the daily NRC praises to Jazzism and one loves them. With the international release of '' Inner Circle, the 28-year-old from Amsterdam will now make a name for themselves beyond their home country. The pianist, singer and songwriter wrote almost all the songs on this, her second solo album itself and without exception, all arranged, including the wonderful version of 'She's Leaving Home' 'by the Beatles. Soloists such as Joris Roelofs and Maarten Hogenhuis, and her producer, guitarist Jesse van Ruller make, '' Inner Circle '' to a very vocal combination of polyrhythmic pop music and cinematic jazz, and also and to a 'loving statement about family, warmth the never-ending quest for relaxation '', as Meijer himself says. If you know that Maartje Meijer and her husband, the above mentioned Jesse van Ruller, soon expecting their second child, one can imagine how at least partially the inspiration came to this beautiful and poignant songs. If you listen to the gently flowing '' Father Mother '', the haunting interwoven pop song 'Just For Show or the heart-breaking' 'So Small on, the latter a love song of a mother to her teenage son, you will be as pleasant as forcefully into the fascinating familiar world of this 'inner circle' drawn.
