Levon Abrahamyan celebrated the 50th Anniversary of his organist carrier by recording this album with music from Armenian Divine Liturgy arranged for organ only.
Levon Abrahamyan was born in a family of Armenian emigrants in the city of Cairo, Egypt in 1941. He grew up in a family of musicians, where he learned about the beauty of music. He was surrounded by Sunday home concerts of classical music performed by family members and their friends. This environment influenced him to love music and start playing piano at the age of five. At the age of 15, he was hired as a principal organist, at Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin, Armenia, and continued his dedicated work at St. Karapet Church in Hollywood, United States.
In 1948 Levon Abrahamyan with his parents migrated from Cairo, Egypt to Yerevan, Armenia, where he started to attend the specialized school for music studies, named after P.I. Tchaikovsky. At the school, for music class he was chosen to study cello. Even though his musical instrument was replaced, he did not quit studies of piano as an instrument of personal choice. In 1959 he was accepted to the state Conservatory, named after Komitas (in Yerevan, Armenia), where he graduated with honors first as a cellist, then as a concert pianist/organist and last as a symphonic conductor.
In addition to his natural born talent, the family concerts and appreciation of music from his childhood left their powerful mark and influence for the art of music ensemble. This made him one of the greatest musicians of our times. During his career in Soviet Union, Levon Abrahamyan held numerous performances and concert tours. While he was a student in the conservatory, he started his career as a piano accompanist at the Opera House of Armenia. Where he became the preferred accompanist by well known artists such as, Opera Diva: Gohar Gasparyan, Musician/Cellist Prof. Geronty Talalyan, Singer: Lusine Zakaryan, Violinist: Jean Ter-Mergeryan, Cellist: Medea Abrahamyan and many others. During his concert seasons of 1975-1978 he performed as a solo pianist/organist with the Chamber Orchestra of Armenia. In 1977 he began his conducting career at the Opera House of Armenia, furthermore Music Director at the Theatre of Music and Comedy named after H.Paronyan, guest conductor with Symphony Orchestra of Armenia, and Chamber Orchestra of Yerevan.
In 1990 the second migration brought Levon Abrahamyan to Glendale, CA. For concert seasons of 1992-1994 he formed the first Armenian Chamber Orchestra in the city Los Angeles. Today, in conjunction with concert performances as a pianist, organist and a conductor, he passes his talent to our next generation by teaching the youth to the art of music and piano.
