On the classic 1972 live album Roadwork, Edgar Winter immortalized the words, when introducing brother Johnny: "Everybody asks me…where's your brother?" It's a question that fans have besieged both Winters with for over two decades, and now Johnny gets a chance to return the tribute with his latest. Edgar does in fact guest on the sessions, blowing sax and tinkling keys on a few tracks, and dueting with big bro on a superb, seasonal rendition of "Please Come Home for Christmas."

Review by Roch Parisien, Allmusic.com

My background: fan since 69 listening to Progressive Blues in Nam, favorite solo, Jumpin Jack Flash, favorite albums, Second Winter and Still Alive and Well. I definitely have always been closer to the old stuff.

I bought Let Me In when it came out. It had some good stuff but I thought many of the tempos were too rushed which detracted a lot for me. So I didn't get this one when it came out. Bought it a few years ago on cd and it has mostly set on my shelf since. Got it out the other day for some loud music in the car and WOW! Ignore the Christmas song. There is one good Reso song, like he would do on his earlier albums. Outside of that it is one blistering solo after another. The uptempos leave enough room to breath and I have to admit that I think his solos here are better than most of his older stuff. Even on the uptempos there will be a fast flurry of notes at a release point in the solo that I don't think I've ever heard anyone else do. Usually even good players tend to stay around the beat on the uptempo stuff and save their flurries for the slow blues. Here Johnny shows what a technical master he is. The songs are pretty decent, the arrangements aren't overcrowded or rushed.

I will always love Johnny but after hearing I'm A Bluesman I don't think we'll ever be passing this way again. If I had to recommend one later period Winter to one of those old fans like me it would be this one. Go, Johnny, Go!
