KISS Symphony is a 2003 live album from KISS performing with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. The arrangements were made by David Campbell, who also conducted the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. It is the group's fourth album in the Alive series and first release under KISS Records. The album featured three of the original members of KISS (Peter Criss, Paul Stanley, & Gene Simmons). Ace Frehley once again had left the band and the concert featured for the first time a replacement musician, Tommy Thayer, dressed as Ace Frehley's "Spaceman". However, this would be the last KISS album to feature Peter Criss (who would leave the band officially in 2004 to be replaced by Eric Singer). The members of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra who accompanied KISS during this performance wore full KISS makeup. At the same time they also wore tuxedos. Unlike past Alive releases, the songs on the album appear in the order they were performed, with the concert split into three acts. In Act One, the members of KISS performed six songs by themselves. In Act Two, KISS performed an acoustic set with the Melbourne Symphony Ensemble for the next five songs. In Act Three, the longest act, the band played with the full sixty piece orchestra on all tracks. This concert also marked two new first time events in KISStory. This was the first time ever that Peter Criss sang "Beth" live with actual orchestra musicians performing the music. Every time Peter had sung "Beth" in concert prior to this, he was singing to a recorded backing track. The other first was the live performance of "Great Expectations". On the original album, the chorus has a full children's choir singing "You've got great expectations" making it impossible to play live. For this event, The Australian Children's Choir joined KISS in full KISS makeup to perform the song. 10,000 limited numbered copies were released on vinyl in the US. I have included full scans of everything.
