Paul Stanley is a 1978 solo album from the rhythm guitarist and vocalist of KISS. It was one of four solo albums released by the members of Kiss on September 18, 1978. Of the four solo albums “Paul Stanley” was the most similar to the sort of material fans would have expected from a full KISS release. This was not particularly surprising considering Paul’s role as the primary songwriter of the band, though the material wasn’t particularly surprising. While there was some experimentation on the album, Paul didn’t stray too far from the style of music he had been making for the previous five years. The departures would be more subtle, unlike the recordings of the other members on their efforts, and the result was somewhat formulaic. Once the decision had been made to go ahead with the solo projects, Paul quick secured the services of the “nearly KISS guitarist” Bob Kulick. Paul started working on the album even while the finishing touches were being made on “Double Platinum.” Paul and Bob had remained in contact in the years since the 1972 KISS auditions. Bob had worked with Paul on demos and continued to forge a journeyman career built on session and touring work. Paul was well aware of Bob’s skill, having “drafted” him into service during the recording of the previous year’s “Alive II” studio tracks. While there were political statements about the solo albums not being a vehicle for competition between the members, Paul’s and Gene’s actions concerning Bob clearly make that something of a fallacy. Inserts for "Paul Stanley" included: A merchandise order form & a fold out poster that was cut in a puzzle piece to fit together with the other "Solo" album posters. I've included scans for everything that came in the first pressing.
