Montage is a good name for an L.A. Four recording, because the group (Bud Shank on flute and alto, guitarist Laurindo Almeida, bassist Ray Brown and drummer Jeff Hamilton) consistently mixed together different elements to gain its own sound. Included on this date are classical themes by Claude Debussy and Heitor Villa-Lobos, three group originals (including Shank's "Madame Butterball"), "Teach Me Tonight" (taken as a samba), and cooking renditions of "My Romance" and "Squatty Roo." A fine example of the L.A. Four's unique yet very accessible music. - All Music Guide
