Walk Around No. 12. Author-illustrator Lou Drendel supplies an up-close-and-personal view of World War II's Mitchell bomber in this 1997 Squadron/Signal release. Few American bombers took on so many different missions and configurations than North American's versatile twin as borne out by this nicely-done 'Walk Around' entry.
The B-25 served with the USAAF, USMC, RAF, RAAF and a host of other services. Likewise it evolved from a conventionally-armed medium bomber to a low-level strafer equipped with devastating combinations of .50-calibers, bpmbs, rockets and sometimes cannon. While Drendel covers all the various models, the emphasis is on the H model gunship and the J model bomber.
The book features 82 pages of images: half b&w; half color. Almost all the b&w photographs are vintage shots showing various B-25s in service. With one exception, all the color imges are of warbird models. Don Greer contributes four pages of color profiles.
