This volume contains research papers on topics in stochastic processes, with specific applications to problems in underwater acoustics. Topics treated in this book are familiar problems in diverse areas. Models and algorithms developed in this volume can be used in applications other than those of underwater acoustics.

Although the focus here is on applications in underwater acoustics, it will be seen that the methods and results are also applicable to other areas:
• Impulsive noise arises in many environments, of which a specific example is acoustic noise under ice in the arctic or antarctic regions;
• Multipath propagation occurs in seismology and in tropospheric communications;
• Source localization and identification, channel modeling, tracking, signal detection, time delay estimation.
