Costumer and sewing instructor Steffani Lincecum teaches how to re-create your favorite ready-to-wear clothing or delicate vintage finds in this versatile patternmaking class.
Create a sewing pattern from an existing piece of clothing and learn the skills you'll need to replicate the fit and design details of your favorite pieces. This class focuses on gaining valuable patternmaking skills. As demonstrated in her book, Patternmaking for a Perfect Fit, Steffani's "pin-through" technique to duplicate garments uses straight pins and kraft paper, tracing the design lines of garment elements with pinholes, then adding darts, pleats and other construction elements. Once you have a pattern, you'll learn how to make adjustments on a test muslin, then transfer those changes back to your pattern, creating a versatile pattern block you can change up with different design details.
You'll need garment sewing experience to get the most from this class, which demonstrates the basics of turning a 3D garment into a 2D paper pattern by copying a vintage blouse with Peter Pan collar, darts, pleats and pockets.
