A Thousand Pieces of You (Firebird)

Claudia Gray "A Thousand Pieces of You (Firebird)"
HarperTeen | English | November 4, 2014 | ISBN: 0062278967 | 368 pages | azw, epub, lrf, mobi | 3,96 mb

A Thousand Pieces of You starts off quickly: the hero's (Marguerite) scientist parents are murdered by one of their assistants, Paul, who escapes with their dimensional traveling device called the Firebird. With the help of Theo, another assistant, who has two prototype versions of the FIrebird they decide to dimension travel and track down Paul and bring him to justice. The book quickly evolves into a chase story with some YA romance thrown in. The main characters are not described in-depth so it's hard to become fully attached to them, especially Marguerite. The most interesting part of the book was the premise of inter-dimensional travel. All around us are thousands of other dimensions where history evolved in a different way. With each "coin flip" history encounters new dimensions are created where each possibility came true. The main character is able to transport her mind into the mind of alternate dimension selves. It isn't time travel because you can't go backwards or forward in time. You just go from one history to an alternate history. The premise is interesting and I wish it had been taken further. Still it was just enough for me to keep going and it's an easy read. If you have an interest in alternate dimensions this might be enjoyable for you.
