Buddy Fite Fingerstyle Jazz Guitar Solos by Buddy Fite

This book contains a variety of songs for guitar solo printed in standard music notation & tablature. There is also a fascinating interview with Buddy Fite - interviewed by Dory Hylton. The CD includes all of the songs in the book. Buddy Fite is one of those legendary players that most jazz guitar players have heard of, but never actually heard. For a number of reasons, some of which he discusses in an interesting interview, Buddy never garnered the fame that his talent deserves. All his records are out-of-print.

It's a wonderful collection of solos, written specifically for the book. Most of you probably will not be interested in the book (guitarists be warned: this is not for beginners), but the CD stands alone. Very few jazz guitarists have pulled off solo albums: Kessel, Raney, Affif, Eschete etc have tried. Only Joe Pass has been successful, and the only one to have put out more than one solo album. Fite is very different sounding than Pass, but in the same class, talent wise.
Buddy plays on a guitar with old scratchy overdriven pickups, a refreshing and appropriate sound for his swinging bluesy style - no modern syrupy musak here. A few cuts have his own rhythm guitar overdub. It's too bad that this work is classified in the book rather than the music section. It deserves a wider audience.
