This unit still serves. It is now stationed once again in Germany, at Vilseck. My son-in-law is in it, as I was, in Germany. This unit has fought in every major conflict, except Vietnam, that the US has been in. The only other book on the 2nd that comes even close includes the after-Civil war years to WWI, where it was the only US Cavalry unit to fight mounted.
