Both are expensive, time-consuming solutions and have the drawback to be highly influenced by the commercial interests of manufacturers, often sponsoring these events, with few chances to compare pro and cons of various devices. After some more time you may expect case reports, preliminary series, and review articles to appear in medical journals. Their focus is most often on science than on education. Books are the last place where you expect to find an update description of cutting edge techniques and to learn practical aspects of their application. This book has convinced me that if you find a motivated group of expert contributors you can timely produce a comprehensive in-depth analysis of the various aspects of a new technique—a theoretical introduction indispensable to assimilate and understand the procedural steps observed during live cases. This is the first book exclusively dedicated to transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and mainly focuses on the two devices in current clinical use but with tips and tricks applicable to new iterations of the existing devices and to new systems in development.
