This is the third installment in a series dedicated to using Maya Software to create Dynamic FX simulations. The techniques presented in this series have been used in numerous Film and television projects over the years during my role as an FX artist working in Post Production.

In this volume, I am going to show a workflow for setting up a cloud system. The need to create nice clouds comes up frequently, and all Fx artist should have a few cloud tricks in their arsenal. I present two techniques in this entry in the series. One is for creating more unique, art direct-able hero clouds, and the other is a more procedural approach for creating less important, background clouds.

I look forward to adding more to the series to help aspiring artists see what a real workflow and setup looks like in production, and hope to shed some light on what can be a very technical and challenging discipline to learn.
