A mystery set in Russia, with a genuine creepiness and haunting presence overhanging the story fueled mainly by the art. Wonderful, great-looking art, because Steve Rolston and Dean Trippe make this comic worth reading just for the slick visuals. Rolston gives each character a strong physical presence, and unique facial features that imbue them with a personality that doesn't come across in their dialogue. His clean-line style makes for an unorthodox look for the genre--and it's an effective one. And Trippe's colors are elegant, yet bold. Vivid and evocative setting the mood, allowing for the feeling of the scene changes, and yet they're never overbearing. They don't call attention to themselves, except in contrast to the garish coloring that tends to appear in mainstream comics more often than not. My only beef is that writer Joe Harris should have gone to the library--or to Google--more since he shares the typical American's shallow knowledge about things Russian what with his obvious cliches and all (which is embarrassing). One of those comic books where the the story and art have a reversal of focus; the art alone is enough to keep you interested, and going, and satisfied. First three issues are Minutemen scans, issues #4 and 5 are by theProletariat-DCP.
Russia is often remembered from the shadow cast during the Cold War-era when every stranger was a spy, but now that the Cold War is long over, some things left behind from that era may not stay lost. An abandoned Soviet research facility somewhere in Siberia has been home to a strange and dangerous weapon that is now in the hands of thieves claiming it for their own. U.S. weapons inspector Will Haley has been assigned to find out what dangers the weapon poses and with the help of Russian agent Anya Romanova they will find the answers, but it will be far from easy. -- Doctor Konstantin had a dream; to capture, contain and weaponize the tortured souls of those he'd experimented on in life. That dream died with the Cold War. But now, the past has been unburied. Old sins and secrets have returned from the grave. And as Konstantin makes one final attempt to fire up the dreaded 'Dosvidanya Projekt', Will Haley and Anya Romanova race to end this deadly cycle, once and for all! --
